STAR OF THE WEEK
One wonderful way to foster community in the classroom is through a Star of the Week program! This fun and engaging activity allows students to take turns being the class «star» by decorating a poster at home. When it’s their turn, they bring the poster back to school and share it with the class, giving their peers a chance to learn more about them.
The main goal of the Star of the Week program is to help students connect and discover more about each other’s backgrounds and families. It also provides a fantastic opportunity for children to practice their public speaking skills, as they share details about something they know best—THEMSELVES!
Each day of the week, the star student participates in a different activity. They start by introducing themselves and sharing their decorated poster with the class. The following day, they bring in their favorite toy to share with classmates, and then they bring their favorite candy or dessert to share with friends. As the week continues, the student read their favorite picture book to the class and end the week by leading a special activity for everyone to enjoy. This program is always a hit with students, allowing them to shine and feel celebrated by their peers!
